Michael A. Cook: Mike created Firma Design Group with Marty in early 2011. Prior to forming the partnership, Mike was Principal of Michael A. Cook, Landscape Architect, a planning and landscape architecture firm based in Santa Rosa, California for over 3 years. For the eight years prior to his own firm, Mike worked for two different landscape architecture firms in the North Bay as a Project Manager and Senior Landscape Architect. Mike is a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA) that enables him to not only design highly-efficient landscape and irrigations systems, but also allows Mike to audit the systems (his design or not – as required by California Building Code) to ensure that the installation has been installed correctly and that the equipment and layout is the most efficient (this certification is completed through the Irrigation Association). Mike served on the City of Santa Rosa Design Review Board from 2011 - 2013.
Mike attended California State Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo, California for his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree (2001). While at Cal Poly, SLO, he was involved in the University community by starting the Cal Poly Golf Association and eventually the Division IAA Golf Team and belonged to the Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. As a landscape architect, Mike has worked on most every type of project throughout California and takes pride in knowing that he is an expert at working with any owner in California, whether it be a private homeowner or a large municipality.
Mike enjoys playing golf when he’s not working, has two young daughters and lives in Santa Rosa with his family. He volunteers his time in many different ways and believes in making Santa Rosa/Petaluma and the North Bay an attractive place for doing business.
Susan Flannery Adams: Susan Flannery Adams is the interim Career Center Director for the School of Business and Economics and a lecturer in the School of Business and Economics at Sonoma State University. This role includes teaching undergraduate and graduate classes, and developing programs designed to connect students with the business community through internships, mentoring, community engagement and corporate sponsorship programs. Susan brings over 20 years of hands-on HR experience in both non-profit and corporate environments with specific expertise in evaluating, designing, and implementing effective HR systems and programs that support the overall business needs of the organization. Prior to her role at SSU, Susan was an independent consultant, led Human Resources at PNI Sensor Corporation in Santa Rosa for over 8 years, and held senior positions at international consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and Chicago-based senior housing and healthcare provider United Methodist Homes and Services.
Susan holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Economics and Cultural Affairs from Valparaiso University, and a Master's Degree in Human Resources and Organization Development from the University of San Francisco. She holds certifications as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and SHRM Senior Certified Human Resources Professional
Senator Mike McGuire: Senator Mike McGuire is a third generation Northern Californian, whose family farmed prunes and grapes in the Alexander Valley for nearly a half century. Raised by his mom and grandma, Mike worked his way through high school and college and enjoyed a career in the radio and television industries.
Mike was first elected to the Healdsburg School Board when he was 19. As one of Northern California’s youngest school board presidents, he led successful efforts to rebuild local decaying schools.
In 2004, Mike was elected to the Healdsburg City Council where he was the city’s youngest mayor and was instrumental in creating one of the most successful local economies and stable municipal budgets in the region.
In 2010, Mike was elected to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. He has been a tireless advocate for our environment, and helped lead efforts that turned years of deficits into a multi-million dollar surplus and made Sonoma County one of top counties in job growth in California.
Mike has always been a tireless advocate for our environment. He has helped protect and preserve tens of tens of thousands of acres of open space, watersheds and coast and he successfully fought to keep our regional and state parks open to the public.
Mike was sworn into office on December 1st, 2014, and represents the Second Senate District, which stretches from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon Border. The district includes Del Norte, Trinity, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma and Marin counties.
Mike attended Santa Rosa Junior College and graduated from Sonoma State University. He is married to local high school teacher and middle school assistant-principal, Erika McGuire. Erika and Mike live in Healdsburg.
Sarah Scudder: Sarah Scudder is the Chief Growth Officer of The Sourcing Group, one of the fastest growing print distributors in the US. She’s the youngest executive to ever serve on the board for the Print Services and Distribution association (PSDA). Sarah is the CEO and founder of the Young Innovators Group that focuses on innovation and how to attract, hire and retain young people in the print industry. Sarah also puts on an annual national conference for the Young Innovators Group. Sarah co-hosts a weekly radio show, Career Conversations, in which she interviews entrepreneurs, community leaders and people who have made major career advancements. She’s a monthly columnist for the Print Services (PS) Magazine. She’s a winner of North Bay Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 award, Print+Promo’s Trailblazer Under 40 award and Print Services & Distribution Association (PSDA)’s Member of the Year award. Sarah’s also an entrepreneur, co-founding the company Zen Balance, the creator of Relax + Focus: a stress and anxiety relief supplement.
